A little [rant] about me and the blog.

Video games have really evolved since I began playing them, and I think sharing my thoughts ideas about them can perhaps allow more people to see them in a new light. I hope this blog will be both a great place for me to talk about my view of the gaming world, as well as a spot for me to share what I’m currently playing and enjoying.

To start off, my name’s Bob Kaz and I’ve always loved video games. I was born in 1990, right around the release of the Super Nintendo (SNES), and as far back as I can remember I’ve been exposed to games. My first experience with a home console was the NES, and vividly remember being excited to go over to house of a friend of my older brother just to play Duck Hunt and Mario Bros. I don’t remember what made my mom decide to buy a console, but around 1992-1994 my brother got the wonderful gift of a SNES for Christmas. Since then, I have been positively hooked on gaming, owning a number of handhelds and consoles in the 16 or so years since. I’m currently 18 years old and halfway through my senior year in high school.

I realize that right about now is when anyone reading this blog is curious about why the title is what it is if I’m going off into a Nintendo nostalgia rant. So now I’ll try to focus in more on what this blog will be about.

My Xbox360 is, for now, the system that I use the most. It has a great, steadily increasing library of games that I enjoy, a unique online community, and of course, Achievements. For those unfamiliar with the system, one’s “gamerscore” is his/her total of Achievement points, which are obtained by completing game-specific tasks (unlocking Achievements) in any one of the retail or Arcade games for the Xbox360.

When the Xbox360 launched, I didn’t know what to think about Achievements. This was the first console to ever keep track of all the games you played, as well as give you a score based on how you played them. I’ve heard many different opinions about this system, but all I can really say is that, for me, it’s addictive. I love competing with friends for points on games, and it can be incredibly satisfying to snag some of the harder Achievements for a game, or better yet get the perfect 1000/1000 score. I know a lot of people who say games don’t become fun at the point where your trying to explore every nook and cranny of the world, and collecting all 10,000 pieces of gold for just 50g more (I often joke about no longer playing games for fun myself), but I think there’s an altogether different sense of enjoyment to be had by doing these things. It is every aspect of this awesome system that I hope to be able to bring to you here.

I think I’ve gone on long enough. All I will say is please check back here every now and then (I’ll try to update at least every Friday) to see what game I’m playing, how to score a good amount of points yourself, and for a general opinion on games!

    Welcome to Achievement Unlocked!
